For centuries ancient yogis and gurus have been using bed of nail for healing and meditation. Acupressure is also known as acupuncture without needles. It involves application of manual pressure on specific points. Within ancient Chinese therapeutic treatments, there is a belief in Qi the life energy that flows through fourteen channels to keep a human lively and vibrant. Acupressure is the art of stimulating the specific points to allow the free flow of this energy to keep an individual free of pain, sluggishness and fatigue.
The proper treatment protects you from the harmful effects of everyday issues like headaches, stomach aches, back and neck pain, formation of cellulite, indigestion etc.
Some research attributes the therapeutic effects of acupressure mats to the release of endorphins while others indicate the influence of autonomic nervous system.
The Acupressure mat and pillow is embedded with hard plastic disks containing protruding spikes simulating a bed of nail. The acupressure pillow included with this offer can be used on the neck, head, hands, or feet. Acupressure mat helps in the following:
In mid19th century Russian Celebrity Ivan Turgenev in his novel “Eve” described the application of a bed of needles during surgery to control patient’s blood pressure and keep him relaxed.
Tanya Zilberter, Ph.D. the author of ‘Reflexo-Therapy From Kutzenov Applicator to Shakti Ma’ believed that acupuncture was the theory behind that procedure.
Zilberter’s research reveals that Kuznetsov, a Russian music teacher invented the first acupressure mat. Kutzentsove suffered from a severely impaired peripheral circulation and muscle spasm to the extent he faced difficulty in moving his limbs. He found his cure in acupuncture, but the cost of the treatment was beyond what he could afford. In desperation, he tried to perform acupuncture on himself, but failed because reaching all the pressure points on his back was not an easy feat.
His misery and desperation brought him to a novel idea. He prepared a sheet of tire rubber with embedded office pins each quarter of an inch apart and lied down on it adjusting his posture until he attained the right pressure points. He called his new invention ‘Iplikator’ and filed for a patent in 1979. Since this invention thousands of clinics in Russia replicated the Iplikator’ and it was featured in famous magazine ‘Invention and Rationalization in 1981. Later it was approved by department of health in Russia.
Modern Day Acupressure Yoga Mat:
Later Sweden took the lead and invented the modern day acupressure yoga mats. In August 2009 a Swedish manufacturer organized a mass meeting of 3000 users sitting or lying on acupressure yoga mats forming a sunbeam singing mantras in a park in Stockholm. The event resulted in an entry in the Guinness Book of Records and was also reported in The New York Times.
For a beginner, it takes some getting used to with your newly acquired Acupressure mats and pillow. Several hundred spikes though blunt are still sharp enough to cause some level of discomfort or pain for several minutes in the beginning which is bearable for most of the average users. For maximum results, use the mat each day for 10 to 20 minutes at a time. Remember breathing is the most important part of any exercise routine and Acupressure mats are no exception. Breathe and relax your body consciously while using it.
